How to prepare your biology manuscript for proofreading
Proofreading is most effective when the editor has the right context. Before sending your manuscript, consider the following checklist.
1. Provide the target journal
Language tone and structure vary by journal. Sharing the journal name helps align the editing style.
2. Share your deadline
Clear deadlines allow realistic scheduling and prioritisation.
3. Note preferred terminology
If your lab uses specific terms or naming conventions, include them to ensure consistency.
4. Include reviewer language comments
If reviewers previously noted language issues, supply those comments so editing can focus on similar areas.
5. Send the right file format
Word documents (.docx) are preferred for tracked changes. LaTeX users can discuss alternatives.
